Your Voice, Not Just Any Voice

Three steps and the exact prompts to build your own Brand Voice Skill, so AI writes like you and not like every other coach on Instagram.

Works with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini

Before you start

Do all three steps in one single chat, so the AI keeps everything you tell it. Replace everything in [square brackets] with your own details. If you can, answer by voice message or dictation. Spoken answers carry far more of your real voice than typed ones.

1

Gather your words

The AI asks you how you actually talk: the words you use, how you explain your work, what your clients say before they come to you.

Interview prompt
You’re going to help me capture my voice so an AI can write like me. I’m [your work in one sentence], and I write for [who your audience is].

Ask me one question at a time and wait for my answer before you ask the next. Ask around 10 questions, only about how I talk and write:
– words and phrases I use all the time, including English words, dialect or slang
– how I explain what I do to a client, in the words I would actually say
– what my clients say before they work with me, in their own words
– how I talk to my audience: how direct I am, whether I use humour, whether I say “you”
– words and phrases I would never use

When an answer sounds vague or polished, ask me to say it the way I’d say it out loud. Don’t rewrite or summarise my answers. When we’re done, say “Interview complete” and wait.
2

Find your words and your blacklist

Collect three to five texts you wrote yourself that genuinely sound like you: transcripts of voice messages, long messages to a friend, the posts you’re proudest of. Nothing an AI wrote for you.

Prompt A · your own words
Here are [number] texts I wrote myself. Analyse how I write, using only what is actually in them:
1. Sentence rhythm: how long are my sentences, how do I connect them, where do I suddenly go short?
2. Words and phrases I use again and again, including English words or slang. List them exactly as I write them.
3. How I address the reader: do I say “you”, and in what kind of sentences?
4. Rhetorical questions: do I use them, and where?
5. What I never do that a typical coaching post does.

Quote my own sentences as evidence for each point. Don’t invent patterns that aren’t there.

[paste your texts]

A starter blacklist

These come straight from my own Brand Voice Skill. They sound polished, and they are the fastest way to sound like everyone else:

Prompt B · your blacklist
Here is a starter blacklist of phrases that make writing sound like generic coaching:
– “It’s not because A. It’s because B.” as the end of a paragraph
– “What if you…?” as a move to make the reader rethink
– “And that’s exactly why…”
– “The point isn’t X. The point is Y.”
– “Here’s the uncomfortable part: …”
– “X isn’t Y. It’s Z with a different name.”
– every paragraph ending on a quotable punchline
– lists of three used for rhythm

Now write a short Instagram caption about [your topic] the way a typical AI would. Then mark every phrase in it that is on the list, plus any other phrase that could have been written by anyone in my field. Add those to the blacklist and give me the complete list.
3

Build your Brand Voice Skill

Now the AI turns everything from this chat into one reference it reads before it writes anything for you.

Brand Voice Skill prompt
Using everything from this chat (my answers, the analysis of my texts and my blacklist), write my Brand Voice Skill: a reference an AI reads before writing anything for me.

Rules: use only what I actually said or wrote. Don’t invent anything. Quote my own words wherever you can.

Structure:
1. How I sound, in three or four plain sentences
2. Words and phrases I use, exactly as I use them
3. How I talk to my reader and my clients, with examples in my own words
4. My sentence rhythm
5. My blacklist: words and phrases I never use

Write it in [the language you create content in].

Then read it out loud. Anything that makes you wince, cross out or correct in your own words.

Keep it where your AI can find it

Save your Brand Voice Skill once so you never have to paste it again. In ChatGPT or Claude, create a Project and add it to the project’s instructions or files. In Gemini, create a Gem with it. Every chat in there then starts with your voice already loaded.
